James Upchurch was born and raised in North Carolina. He's represented his hometown on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners since he was 25 years old. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business. His professional career began with US Bank. He later became a teacher in our public schools and then a business professor, prior to starting a consulting business. He's served on several committees related to finance, pensions, education, and economic development. Most notably, he received a federal appointment to represent the state of North Carolina on the Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee.
"Parents deserve to know what their kids are being taught in school, and taxpayers deserve to know what their tax dollars are being spent on.
I will hold our school systems, local governments, and elected officials accountable for how they spend our tax dollars."
