James Upchurch was born and raised in North Carolina. He's represented his hometown on the Guilford County Board of Commissioners since he was 25 years old. He holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in business. His professional career began with US Bank. He later became a teacher in our public schools and then a business professor, prior to starting a consulting business. He's served on several committees related to finance, pensions, education, and economic development. Most notably, he received a federal appointment to represent the state of North Carolina on the Finance, Pensions and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee.
